Digital News Production (Planning 15)

Our group have decided that for the Nightingale news piece, we need to have an interview or something happening there for it to be a live news piece. We have already tried to organise an interview with Land Securities with no success, so instead of conducting an interview with them we are going to try and get an interview with a representative of RSPB Medway. We have decided to get an interview with them as they have and interest in this matter as they are a charity focusing on the well-being of birds. They have already had an input on the matter through their website but they may be willing to conduct an interview on their opinion of the councils decision. We have sent them an email and are waiting for their reply. (Email bellow).

Hello, My name is Charlie Ansell and I am currently a student studying Television Production at Maidstone Studios. We are currently producing a news story on the planned building on the designated Nightingale site in Lodge Hill. We are contacting you today to enquire if RSPB Medway would like to be part of an interview for our production. We are hoping that a representative of yours would like to be interviewed for our news piece, commenting on the matter and what the RSPB think about the councils decision.
We look forward to hearing from you and if you need to contact me I have left details bellow.

Your Sincerely

Charlie Ansell

Digital News Production (Planning 14 - Nightingale First Script Draft)

This is the first draft of our Nightingale Script. This is only a rough draft and does not include the statement from Land Securities, this is because at the time of us writing the script out we did not receive the statement from them. We will make adjustments accordingly when we take a further look into the good and bad points of the script, as well as what else we need to put into it information wise.

Digital News Production (Planning 13)

I have sent an email to the Edenbridge Bonfire Society, to see if it is possible for us to film the event for our news piece. We have not definitely chosen this as the main subject of our story but we wanted to cover our tracks so we have more than one option as time is cutting short now. We are carrying on looking for other alternative stories to report on involving bonfire night, but in the mean time we are waiting for a response from the Society; the email I have sent them is bellow.

Hello, my name is Charlie Ansell and I am a student at UCA Rochester.

I am currently studying Television Production and I am emailing you today to enquire if it is possible for me and a group of fellow students to film your fireworks display as well as the burning of the effigies. We would like to film your bonfire night rather than other bonfire events because of Edenbridge's dedication and organisation of the event, the success it has had in funding local charities, as well as the famous burning of the celebrity effigy. We were hoping to film the effigies, and have an interview with a member or members of your society about the night, what preparations there have been as well as the decision on the celebrity effigy. We were also hoping to film the festivities taking place in the day time as well as the traditional torch lighting in the streets before the evenings events.

We hope to hear from you soon, if you wish to contact me my details are available bellow.

Your Sincerely

Charlie Ansell

Digital News Production (Planning 12)

We have found an interesting bonfire related story for us to base our news piece on. The bonfire nights in Edenbridge have been very big events. They involve lots of preparation and have lots of things happening at them. But most notably, they are famous for their celebrity effigy burning. It is tradition to burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes as it was his gunpowder plot which created the day known as bonfire night. But Edenbridge, as well as burning a Guy Fawkes effigy, also burn one of a famous person who has caused controversy of some kind within the year who is negatively viewed upon by the public. Past people that have been burned are Jonathan Ross, Lance Armstrong, Suddam Hussain and many more. This tradition has gained lots of attention over the years so much so betting shops are having odds on who will be chosen as the effigy. We are planning to look into this further as it could be a great story to report on.

Digital News Production (Planning 11)

After numerous occasions of my group and I trying to contact Hugh Lowe Farms to enquire about filming a news piece about them and their award winning strawberries, we have decided to report on a different story. With the time that we have left it is too tight of a deadline waiting for a response. So I came up with a new story which will be based on Bonfire night. It is a nationwide event which will be taking place all over Britain. We will have to find a way to relate it to nature as it is related in a way but not clearly. We could do this by focusing on nature aspects of the day rather than the historical factors of the night. But we will have to look further into this.

Digital News Production (Planning 10)

We have had a response back from Land Securities after the email I sent them. We did not receive the ideal response we wanted, as the statement we received did not mention any reference to the nightingale birds at all. I have tried to call Land Securities twice but I could not get any answers from them after being diverted to numerous numbers as well as being told to refer to the statement which I have been emailed. We can still use the statement but we will have to cut it down and take out key pieces of information from it.

Email reads A spokesperson for Land Securities, said: “We were delighted when Medway Council approved our Outline Planning Application for Lodge Hill, which will allow for a truly sustainable development to be delivered. We have worked hard over several years to create a masterplan which addresses all potential impacts associated with the regeneration plans and we are grateful for the constructive involvement of Council officers, local residents and other important stakeholder groups.

“Lodge Hill will benefit life and business in Medway by bringing much-needed homes and road improvements and will create approximately 5,000 jobs to secure the Peninsula’s status as a significant economic destination in the region.”

"The proposals for Lodge Hill will create a new community hub on the Hoo Peninsula, that will bring with it benefits and amenities for people living in the area, including a countryside park, sports facilities, health services, a nursing home, three new primary schools and a new secondary school."
