I have finished my recording today for my Sound Design project. As I have said in my previous posts I have been looking to get the best detail possible with my sound. I have looked into techniques used to create foley sound effects. I started my sound effects with trying to create a sound effect for footsteps, even though this is created with recording literal footsteps, I looked at how a footstep would sound on certain flooring such as wooden, tile and concrete. Within my story I will be using footsteps on tile flooring and also on concrete. To record the concrete flooring sounds, I simply recorded my footsteps walking outside. But the trouble I had with this is that I had to wait till there is no other noises such as people, traffic etc. Even with this trouble, I still recorded a good quality sound. With the walking on tile sound I recorded footsteps on the tile flooring in my bathroom. This may not be actually recorded on shop flooring, but never the less it still sounds realistic enough to pass as footsteps in a shop.
I also had to record a sound for a zippo lighter and a cigarette being lit. I did consider recording this in one whole sequence, but I thought that I would get better quality if I recorded it in separate takes. So, I firstly recorded my opening the zippo lighter, then recorded the sound of lighting a cigarette then finally recorded the sound of a zippo lighter closing. I recorded this multiple times each so I have more chance of getting a better sound. By doing this, I will get a crisp clearer sound which is of better quality than recording it in all one sequence.
