'The Journey' Ideas/Thoughts 13

After the sound design project, I appreciate more to how the fact how music and sound can affect a scene and it’s importance in filmmaking. With my film I will be using a pop song as well as using natural sounds with no music in the background. I will be using these different sounds to convey the different emotions shown in my film. I will be using a pop song for the first half of the film where the main character gets the phone call about meeting up and getting ready to go and meet them for getting the package. I am going to use the song ‘Top of the World’ by Imagine Dragons for these scenes (Link found at bottom of page). I have decided to use this song because it is an up beat cheerful song about love, which will make the audience believe this is a film about love. But at the same time, the lyrics could also be interpreted to be about someone obsessed with somebody else, possibly in a creepy way.
The first three lines of the song are ‘If you love somebody, Better tell them while they’re here ’cause, They just may run away from you’. These lyrics taken out of the song could be turned into a negative form of love which is the type I am trying to show.
The other sound I will be using will be recorded off camera (not recorded whilst recording the visuals). These sounds will include footsteps, ambience sounds, rainfall, ripping open paper etc. I want a clear crisper sound, as it is effective in getting the audience into what they are seeing on screen.

'The Journey' Ideas/Thoughts 12

I've been looking into the colour tones I want to use in my film as well as the moods I want to create for the audience to perceive. For the colour tones and moods I want to have within my film, I would like there to be difference with the use of lighting for the duration of the film. The way I’m planning it out is that at the beginning it will be morning, and it will have a slightly dull tone to the colours used up until the main character finishes the phone call and his mood changes to being happy. I have decided to do this to put emphasis on the change of emotion in the character, which will show the audience that it is a happy situation that is happening on screen and it will also make them understand that with out knocking it on the head too much.
But at the same time I want to make it a really happy scene but not make it cheesy like a musical. So the scenes leading up to the twist at the end will be full of high contrast colours and bright light being shown. This will depend on the weather but even if it is raining it will be possible to still let it give off a good vibe. Also, if it is either overcast weather or raining, it could work in my favour of foreshadowing the bad events to come. It could also be a nice spin if it is nice weather when the twist happens, it could give off an uncomforting feeling towards the audience.
The colours I will be using will change throughout the film, but they will all blend well together and it will work. I have separated my use of colours into two sections, the first section is for the beginning of the film up to when he meets the person delivering the package. These colours used will be bright and vibrant, to set the mood and show how happy the main character is. But in the scenes where the main character is opening and looking at the package, the colours will be dull and the lighting will not be well lit. This is to convey the darkness of the situation, of how bad the main characters obsession is and that he could possibly have ill intentions. The whole point of this and the entire film is to show how even the nicest people you meet could have a dark secret, and not in fact be the nice innocent person you assumed they were.

'The Journey' Ideas/Thoughts 11

I've been looking at the visual style of my film and what colours and shots I want to use. Basically how I want the audience to see the film, how I want to present it.  The visual style of my film will be a mixture of close up personal shots and broad open wide shots. I will be using close up shots of the main character so the audience focus on him, and wide broad open shots for setting the scene and showing how big and open certain areas are in the film.
The close up shots will be of when the main character meets up with the person to collect the package, when the main character is looking at the package at home and also partly for when the main character is getting ready.
The open wide shots will be used in setting the scene for the two main locations, the main characters house and the meeting place. These shots will announce to the viewer that there is a new setting, also my locations are important to the story so the audience should see everything so they have a sense of where they are and what sort of place it is.
