Commissions (Initial Idea Development) 11
We have found a person through the 'New Directions Mentoring Programme' for who we can interview for the documentary. Her name is Louise and she has been through the programme since a child and now she has changed and improved her life and now she is one of the mentors for the programme. Louise is a perfect choice of a person to interview as she has been through the system and the charity and it has helped her successfully, also she can gives us information from both sides of going through the programme and also being a mentor herself. Another good factor about having her for an interview is that she has done one before for the BBC; this was shown to us during our meeting with the charity. The way spoke during the interview showed that she wasn't uncomfortable being on camera and she was very well spoken so we can get some good information from her and holding a conversation would not be difficult, this helps us a lot as we do not have a lot of experience with interviews and this is our first documentary we have filmed on this course.

Our group has had a meeting with 'The Young Lives Foundation' who are the charity who run the 'New Directions Mentoring Programme'. We spoke about what we were going to be filming, who we were allowed to film, if there were any group activities we could go out and film, organising interviews with people and also if there were any questions they had for us. During the meeting we found out that we were not allowed to film the children unless we blurred them out. This was for their protection which is understandable but, we were also helped by a video they showed us that was a news piece that the BBC based on them for 'Children in Need'. In this video they had footage of the children in their charity and they showed either footage of the children's feet or blurred out. This was very useful to us as we got an idea of how we could film them and be allowed to use the footage; this was not something we thought of beforehand.
They were not sure of any group activities coming up that we could film, apart from a local camping trip or a trip to the science museum in London. With the camping trip we were not sure how good it would be to film this activity, this was because of the lighting at night time whilst blurring out the children as well as how long we could film with the battery life. Even so, we could still film this activity and it is still a possible choice. With the trip to the London science museum, we would have to get permission from the museum to film in there which may be hard to get on such short notice. But instead of filming this we could just film them heading out to London on the train accompanied by a small interview with the carers who are going with them. This is a good idea but we want to focus less on the charity side of the topic and more on how good charities such as these help children, not create an advert for them to use.
(The meeting was voice recorded and if I can find a way to post it on this blog I will).

I have been given the task of looking into the music that will be used in the documentary. I am going to look at some royalty free sites online for suitable music but I will be focussing on trying to find a particular type of music. As 'BBC Three' documentaries usually use modern pop songs for their documentaries, I will be looking for songs that sound modern but also, they have to fit in with the theme of the documentary or the areas of the documentary the songs will be used. It would be a bit off putting and possibly disrespectful if we had an emotional sad interview with a person then play happy music through it or right after it. So I will be trying to find suitable songs for the theme as well which led me to be looking at mobygratis.com. Mobygratis.com is a website I have previously looked at in the past for the last unit I did, it is a website created by music artist Moby so that independent film makers and students can use his music for films you create for a non commercial use. Some of the songs I have looked at previously on this site could be suitable for the documentary, but it is something I have to look more in depth into.
