Studio Production (Initial Idea 4)

To go with the brand of 'Pokerface', I have decided to have a head figure or a mascot to be the main logo and image to represent the brand. Other television shows have a figure, different from the presenter/host. What I mean by this is something similar to what 'The Stig' is to 'Top Gear'.

I have decided to have a male figure smartly dressed in a suit with no face to play the role of 'The Dealer'. 'The Dealer' will be the actual dealer who will deal the cards while the game is played. He will be similar to 'The Stig' as he will not have a visible face, will not be able to speak and will have some essence of mystery around them.

I was aiming the dealer to look similar to the fictional character 'Slender Man'. It is possible that I may want him to be dressed similar to a card dealer/croupier you would find in a casino dealing a poker game.

Studio Production (Initial Idea 3)

I have created my initial idea concept for my gameshow, which I have called 'Pokerface'.

  • The aim of the game is to get most points by playing a tweaked version of poker where the cards look similar to typical playing cards.
  • The cards will have numbers on them same as in normal poker but each suit will be a different colour and will represent a different topic of question (e.g. green would be Geography, purple would be History).
  • When a player plays a card, the player to their left will have to answer a question on that topic with 3 answers to choose from. If they answer correctly they will receive the amount of points from the card giver that is on the card (e.g. a correctly answered green 5 card would equate to receiving 5 points).
  • But, there are also cards known as killer cards which resemble the joker cards you get in playing cards. These cards will, to the other contestants, seem like a normal card but the question will not be true or not have correct answers (e.g. 'Who was Henry VIII's 7th wife?' or 'When did England win the world cup? a-1967 b-1968 or c-1969').
  • If the contestant tries to answer this question, they will lose half of their points to the other player. But if they call them out on it they will receive half of the question givers points.
  • If a contestant tries to accuse another player of using a killer card they will lose half or their points and it will be evenly distributed to the other players.

I need to look further into detail with other aspects such as how long each of the rounds I create will last, what the 4 out of studio videos will be and what the design style and brand will look like.

Studio Production (Initial Idea 2)

I have decided to go further into my gameshow idea. I have looked at timeless television shows and what their hook is to gain interest from the public.

One main element that popped up more than once that caught my interest was the inclusion of sport in a game show. Popular game shows aired in Britain such as 'Breaking Point', 'Bullseye' and 'Question of Sport' all incorporated sports into their shows. I have looked into popular sports that I can mould into a game show, but have tried to find some originality within it. So I have stayed away from popular sports such as football as they may come across as predictable or too basic.

The sport I have decided to focus on is poker. Poker may not be so much an athletic vigorous sport, but it has a lot to with intellect and mind games, which is an element that a lot of gameshows entail. I am going to look focus on the mental games played in poker and try to create a television appropriate game around it.

Studio Production (Initial Idea 1)

For this unit, we have to create a concept for a television show which has to last 30 minutes and be filmed in front of a live audience. It must also include 4 video clips filmed outside of the studio (e.g. 'Top Gear' when they go out driving reviewing a car). Some of Britain's most popular television shows are filmed this way from game shows such as 'Family Fortunes' to chat shows such as 'Alan Carr Chatty Man'.

At this current moment in time I am looking into a game show concept for a television show. I feel more passionate about this idea as it will let me use my creative side in creating a concept of a game, as well as the fact it is more of a feasible option compared to a chat show or a factual/ factent type of show.
