Film Adaption Workshop (Editing)

Today, we had a workshop exercise where we had to create a music video out of clips online and a music song of our choice. For this I chose Calvin Harris' song 'Blame'. After listening to the song I felt it gave off a sense of regret as well as lack of responsibility, so I though about using footage that related to this theme. I decided to use footage from the London riots, as well as footage from the film 'Project X'. I decided to use two different types of footage because I felt it would tell a story and they are both about an event that gets out of hand with serious outcomes. They also work well together because they both focus on young people getting caught up and getting into an out of control state without thinking about the consequences or taking responsibility. I also included footage of a time-lapse car journey, I used this footage basically as filler as well as I felt it helped link the footage together. But what I was un aware of was that it helped the clips I put together tell a story. This lesson I have learnt will help me with when I am editing my final footage. I am nearly finished with my script but I am going to review it to make sure I include a visual aid (like the car journey in this video) to help visually tell the story.
