'The Meeting' Ideas/thoughts 7

I have been planning how I would like to set out my trailer and as I want it fast paced and full of adrenaline, I have looked at trailers for action trailers. Even though the genre of my short film is thriller, I looked towards action films for inspiration as they are filled with the fast pace I need for my trailer. I have also dabbled in horror as the horror film genre gives the audience suspense filled moments which is a feeling my film has within it. The similarities between these genres are based on the outcome of emotions the audience feels while watching a film within one of these genres.
A great trailer I have taken notes from is the trailer for sci/fi horror classic Alien (1979). This trailer has a build up of suspense by starting out with shots of the scenery in space, of the surface of a planet and a shot of an egg. Slowly rectangular shapes start to form the title of the film which is very effective and works well with the shots used. It is very clever with how first of all some might assume the egg could be the moon but turns out to be an egg. It has a very eery vibe about it with the use of slowly building up quiet music which builds to a high paced beating sound. The trailer slowly builds up to an actioned pact filled variety of shots with a theme of danger which would be ideal for how I would like my trailer to be. The trailer ends with the silence and a shot of a planet with the text 'In space no one can hear you scream'. This has made me rethink some aspects of my trailer such as the music I am using and if it should be running all the way through to the end of the trailer. With this in mind, I will tinker and experiment with what I can create when I come up to editing the trailer as like the trailer for 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' which I have previously mentioned in my blog, it uses no dialogue at all yet it is very powerful and emotive. These films have different stories, they are different genres and they were created in different decades, yet the fact that this way of promoting a film is so powerful it works in these two completely different films it proves how successful this technique can be. I am not fully convinced that this is due to the editing of the trailer or the content of the film itself, but never the less it is a powerful way to structure a trailer and I am considering using this style of advertising a film for my own trailer.
